We’re in the slumpy and fugue like state between Christmas and New Year, where time slows down and it is eminently acceptable to eat a Terry’s Chocolate Orange for breakfast.

If you need some pepping up and feel like getting out and about, there is no need to leave RH, check out what’s occurring in the New Year period and beyond.

MUSIC

The Garibaldi Community Pub has some eclectic evenings coming up. Saturday 28th December, a Cockney singalong with Eugene Portman – singalong pianist, open to all but get your seats early as this promises to be a popular event. 7pm. Oh… Song sheets are provided so no excuse now! As well as his cockney sing-a-longs Eugene does all sorts of other marvellous music on the piano. Check him here:

The pub is also hosting a Hollywood Glamour NYE party on…. The 31st. Again, this is a public event come dressed to impress as your favourite movie start.

The weekly quiz will also take place on Thursday 2nd January if you need to give your brain cells a workout.

The Old Oak in Meadvale is hosting a splendid Christmas hootenanny on Saturday 28th with live music from the Pleasant Pluckers and a charity raffle to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society. Public event, 7.30pm.

The Cage, Reigate has two live music events coming up. International man of mystery and music Nick T will delight the Cage crowd on Friday 27th with his set.  He has been entertaining audiences for 6 years now and will take centre cage stage at 9.30.

Saturday 28th is the return of Andrew Horseman and Billie Fox, otherwise known as 2.5 of local band the Redgate Renegades. The pair will do a scaled back set of covers and original material.  Get down and have listen on one or both evenings.

Spoilt for choice this Saturday. Randy and the Rockets will perform at the Red Cross Inn, Reigate from 8.30pm. The pub also has a NYE party on the 31st. £5 tickets. See website for further details.

 On FRIDAY 3rd January, as we face down the big return to work and misery Monday, why not chase all these feelings away and head down to the best local live music event around? The very first New Music Night will take place at Reigate Priory Cricket Club on Friday 3rd January. 7.45pm. £2.50 entry. A fab evening of music delights for all live music nuts. The first line up of 2020 includes:  Stuey Moon,

 Jim Picking, Tidal Rave, Days Notice and Kosta Dinkovskj. Further info on website below.

Theatre

Stuffed full of panto and looking for something a bit different in theatreland?  The first play of 2020 by the Chipstead Players is an adaptation of the much-loved children’s classic: Anne of Green Gables. Directed by Ian Brown and starring Olivia Thynne as the loveable and mischievous red-haired orphan.  You can see the play from Wednesday 8th January to Sunday 12th and again from Wednesday 15th until Sunday 19th. All tickets are £10. The Chipstead Players produce 7 plays in a year and the theatre itself is a charming venue with plenty of parking. What’s not to love?
